3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Bonds skin and eyes in seconds. Highly reactive to water. (See Section 4 on first aid).

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation

Remove affected person to fresh air.

Skin

Do not pull bonded skin apart. It may be gently peeled apart using a blunt object preferably after soaking in warm soapy water.

Eyes

Cover with a warn wet cloth. Cyanoacrylate will bond to eye protein causing lachrymatory effect which will help to debond adhesive. Keep eye covered until debonding is complete, usually within 1-3 days. Do not force eye open. Medical advice should be sought in case solid particles of cyanoacrylate trapped behind the eyelid cause any abrasive damage.

Ingestion

Ensure that breathing passages are not obstructed. The product will polymerize immediately in the mouth making it almost impossible to swallow. Saliva will slowly separate the solidified product from the mouth (several hours).

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media

Non-flammable product (flash point >80 °C). If product is involved in fire extinguish with dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide.

Fire/Explosions risks

Trace amounts of toxic fumes may be released on incineration.

Special protective equipment for firefighters

Use respiratory equipment.

6. SPILLAGE/ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions

Ventilate area.

Methods for cleaning up

Do not use cloths for mopping up. Polymerize with water and scrape off floor.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Advice for safe handling

Provide good ventilation when using large volumes. Odour limit 1-2 ppm. Use of Loctite dispensing equipment is recommended to minimize the risk of skin or eye contact.

Polymerisation

Polymerisation will occur in the presence of moisture.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Inhalation

In dry atmosphere (<50% humidity), vapours may irritate the eyes and respiratory system. Repeated or prolonged exposure to high concentrations of vapours may lead to chronic effects in sensitive individuals.

Skin

Bonds skin and eyes in seconds. Considered to be of low toxicity: acute dermal LD50 (rabbit) >2000mg/kg. Due to polymerisation at the skin surface allergic reaction is not considered possible.

Eyes

Liquid product will bond eyelids. In a dry atmosphere (RH < 50%) vapours may cause irritation and lachrymatory effect.

Ingestion

Cyanoacrylates are considered to have relatively low toxicity. Acute oral LD50 is >5000 mg/kg (rat). It is almost impossible to swallow as it rapidly polymerizes in the mouth.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Ecotoxicity

Biodegradable product of low ecotoxicity.

Other information

Does not contain and is not manufactured with any of the substances listed on the Montreal protocol.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Disposal considerations

Dispose of in accordance with local and national regulations. Polymerize by adding slowly to water (10:1). Dispose of as water insoluble non-toxic solid chemical or incinerate under controlled conditions in accordance with regulations.

3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

May cause lung damage if swallowed. Irritating to skin. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness. This product is highly flammable. The flash point is -1°C and explosive limits are approximately 1-7%. The solvent defats the skin and may cause cracking and, in the event of repeated contact, eczema. Vapours may cause head aches and nausea.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation

Remove affected person to fresh air, and if still feeling unwell seek medical attention.

Skin

Wash skin with plenty of soap and water and apply replenishing cream.

Eyes

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth with water then give plenty of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice.

Protective equipment

Self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn when dealing with fire.

General information

Keep unaffected containers cool with water spray.

6. SPILLAGE/ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions

Ventilate area. Eliminate sources of ignition.

Methods for cleaning up

Confine the spillage with sand, earth or the like, and place in a closed container, which should be partially filled (air space), for disposal.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Advice for safe handling
