3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

General information

The product is highly flammable. See section 15.

Adverse health effects

Irritating to eyes. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Vapours can cause drowsiness and dizziness.

Adverse environmental effects

Toxic to aquatic organisms.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation

Remove person to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, get immediate medical attention.

Skin

Flush skin with large amounts of water. If irritation persists, get medical attention.

Eyes

Flush eyes immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical advice immediately.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Drink two glasses of water. Call a physician.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media

Carbon dioxide, powder, foam

Exposure hazards

Closed containers exposed to heat from fire may build pressure and explode. Vapours may travel long distances along the ground or floor to an ignition source and flash back.

Special firefighting procedures

Wear full protective equipment, including helmet and self-contained breathing apparatus.

6. SPILLAGE/ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions

See other sections of this safety data sheet for information about health hazards, ventilation and personal protective equipment.

Measures

Extinguish all ignition sources. Cover with absorbent material. Collect using non-sparking tools. Ventilate area. Contain spill. Evacuate unprotected personnel from hazard area. Cover spill area with Light Water (3M brand) or other AFFF foam. Clean up residue with an appropriate organic solvent. Read and follow safety precautions on the solvent label and MSDS. Place in an approved metal container. Seal the container.

Disposal

See under heading 13.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Storage

Keep the container well sealed when not in use.

Materials/substances to avoid

Keep away from intense heat.

Fire prevention measures

Extremely flammable liquid and vapours.

Exposure control procedures

Keep away from heat, sparks, flames and other sources of ignition.

Precautionary measures against static discharges

Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Handling instructions

Keep container tightly closed.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Recommended ventilation

Do not use in a confined area or areas with little or no air movement. Use in a well-ventilated area. Provide sufficient ventilation to maintain emissions below recommended exposure limits. If exhaust ventilation is not adequate, use appropriate respiratory protection.

Hand protection

Wear appropriate gloves when handling this material. A pair of gloves made from the following material(s) are recommended: polyvinyl alcohol, fluoroelastomer (Viton).

Eye protection

Avoid eye contact. Wear vented goggles. Wear safety glasses with side shields.

Skin protection

Avoid skin contact.

Respiratory equipment

Avoid prolonged breathing of vapours. Select an approved respirator: half-mask organic vapour respirator, full-face organic vapour respirator.

Skin

Moderate skin irritation (after prolonged or repeated contact): signs/symptoms can include redness, swelling, itching, and dryness. May be absorbed through the skin and produce effects similar to those caused by inhalation and/or ingestion.

Eyes

Moderate eye irritation: signs/symptoms can include redness, swelling, pain, tearing, and hazy vision.

Ingestion

Ingestion may cause: Irritation of gastrointestinal tissues: signs/symptoms can include pain, vomiting, abdominal tenderness, nausea, blood in vomitus, and blood in faeces.
