4. FIRST AID MEASURES

General

Take off all contaminated clothing.

Inhalation

In case of discomfort after breathing vapours/aerosols: Fresh air and rest. Seek medical advice.

Skin

Wash skin with soap and water. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

Eyes

Rinse immediately with water for 10-15 minutes. Hold the eyes wide open. Seek medical advice immediately.

Ingestion

Rinse the mouth thoroughly with plenty of water. DO NOT SWALLOW. If the casualty is conscious and can swallow, give plenty of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. If casualty vomits, give water to drink again. Seek immediate medical advice.

Treat symptomatically (decontamination, vital functions). Possible dose of: ethanol.

General

Human experience: Ethanediol: Deadly if swallowed, approx. 5 g/kg body weight. Deadly dose approx. 90-110 g for adults, correspondingly lower for children. Small doses may cause: unconsciousness, kidney damage, damage to the central nervous system.

Inhalation

Vapours or mist in high concentrations may cause irritation to the nose and throat, headaches, nausea and tiredness.

Skin contact

Mildly irritating to skin.

Eye contact

May cause mild irritation, experienced as temporary slight discomfort and seen as reddening of the eye.

Ingestion

Harmful. Causes: Headache. Tiredness. Confusion. Incoordination, problems with walking. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting. Low blood pressure. Cardiac arrhythmia. Kidney damage. Unconsciousness. Symptoms may be delayed. Serious poisoning may lead to death.
