The main instrument unit is fitted with an electronic tachometer, which is powered and controlled from the main instrument control module.
EDC 15 sends information continuously on the bus concerning the engine speed in rpm.
When engine speed is below 1100 rpm (around idling speed) the display is "damped" to give a more stable reading.
