Adjusting the door and side windows, CV

Adjustment

Before beginning adjustment, ensure that the following points are correctly performed:

- Door setting, see Adjusting front and rear doors .

- Hood setting, see Adjusting the hood .

- Adjusting the hood seals, see Adjusting seals .

Important

All adjustments are made with the soft top closed unless specified otherwise.

Note

When working with door and/or side windows with this instruction, always perform the entire process. Adjustment of the door and/or side windows applies to both the door window and side window - check/perform whenever any integral component has been replaced or modified. Adjustment should also be made at the same time for both the door window and side window. This means for example that if the door window setting is changed in some way, the side window setting should also be checked/adjusted.

Note

The adjustment points with numbering, and their effect on the door or side windows, are described under the following headings “Adjustment points for door window” and “Adjustment points for side window”.

Adjustment points for door window

Important

Check the condition of the car battery. Connect a battery charger to the car to improve the result of the adjustment and to avoid discharging the battery while it is being done.

Adjusting the door window

Note

The instructions below refer to the adjustment points in "Adjustment points door window".

1. Check/adjust the front lateral support rail. ADJUSTMENT 1. The adjustment affects how hard the door window presses against the windscreen frame seal.

The door window should press against the windscreen frame seal when the door is closed. The door window edge should engage below the lip on the seal.

2. Check/adjust the front support rail longitudinally. ADJUSTMENT 1.1. The adjustment affects the rail's support for the door window.

The support rail should be adjusted as far back longitudinally as possible.

Before VIN number 27004929:

If this adjustment is not sufficient, see TN 03-01-8112

3. Check/adjust the door window upper stop. ADJUSTMENT 2 and ADJUSTMENT 2A.

4. Before VIN number 17008621, ADJUSTMENT 2A:

The adjustment affects the door window height position.

The door window height should be level with the hood seals so that the pressure is even from the front to the rear edge of the door window. The edge of the door window should engage under the lip on the seals. See also "Adjusting the door window", point 9. After adjustment proceed directly to point 9.

5. After VIN number 17008621, ADJUSTMENT 2 and ADJUSTMENT 2A:

The adjustment affects the door window height position separately for the front and back parts of the door window upper edge.

The door window height should be level with the hood seals so that the pressure is even from the front to the rear edge of the door window. The edge of the door window should engage under the lip on the seals. See also "Adjusting the door window", point 9.

6. After VIN number 17008621, ADJUSTMENT 2 and ADJUSTMENT 2A:

Release the adjustment nuts for ADJUSTMENT 2A and run the door window to its up position.

7. After VIN number 17008621, ADJUSTMENT 2 and ADJUSTMENT 2A:

Set the two upper stops for ADJUSTMENT 2, run the window down and up again, and check the setting. One turn on the adjustment screw corresponds to 1 mm height of the door window upper edge.

8. After VIN number 17008621, ADJUSTMENT 2 and ADJUSTMENT 2A:

Check that the adjustment screws make contact with the door stop when the door window is in its up position. If there is some play between the adjustment screws and the stop, undo the nuts for the door window longitudinal adjustment, ADJUSTMENT 4, so that the door window can be turned to the correct position. Then tighten the adjustment nuts (ADJUSTMENT 4) and check the upper stops.

9. Check/adjust the door window mechanism. ADJUSTMENT 3.

The adjustment affects the door window longitudinal slope and the height of the door window rear edge and the distribution of the mechanism forces on the front and rear lifting arms.

10. The force of the mechanism should be distributed evenly between the front and rear lifting arms. Also the pressure from the door window on the hood seals should be even. The door window edge should engage under the seals.

11. Run the door window down and up. The front part of the upper edge of the door window may rise slightly before the rear part of the upper edge. If the door window front edge is jams tightly inwards when the door window reaches the upper stop (can be seen close to the seal for the front support rail), the force is too great on the front lifting arm. Adjust to give more force to the rear lifting arm.

12. Check the door window setting.

Before VIN number 17008621:

This check is not performed, proceed to "Adjustment of door window", point 13.

After VIN number 17008621:

Run the door window to the up position with the door closed. Place two pieces of tape on the door window immediately above the outer seal, approximately level with the position of the two upper stops.

After VIN number 17008621:

Open the door and close it again. Check the distance between the pieces of tape and the outer seal. If the distance of one piece of tape from the outer seal is greater than the other, the force from the lifting arms is too low. Increase the lifting arm force using ADJUSTMENT 3, see "Adjusting the door window", points 9-13.

13. Fasten the door window upper stop. ADJUSTMENT 2A.

Before VIN number 17008621:

This measure is not performed, proceed to point 14.

After VIN number 17008621:

Fasten the door window upper stop, ADJUSTMENT 2A.

14. Check/adjust the door window fixing. ADJUSTMENT 4. The adjustment affects the door window longitudinal position.

15. The pressure of the door window against the windscreen frame seal should be even and the front edge of the door window should form an even continuation of the seal for the front support rail at the front door edge.

16. If the door window longitudinal position requires adjustment, check afterwards that the upper stop adjustment screws touch the door stop when the door window is in the up position, see "Adjusting the door window", point 3.

17. Check/adjust the rear support rail, ADJUSTMENT 5. The lateral adjustment affects the pressure of the door window upper edge against the hood seals.

18. The door window should press against the hood seals when the door is closed. The door window edge should engage under the seals.

Adjusting the side window

Note

The instructions below refer to the adjustment points in "Adjustment points side window".

Note

To be able to check/adjust the side window, the interior equipment, rear speakers and inner seal should be removed.

1. Check/adjust the side window upper stop and extra upper stop. ADJUSTMENT 6 and ADJUSTMENT 9.

Before VIN number W7055419/X7002872, ADJUSTMENT 6:

The adjustment affects the side window height position.

The side window upper edge can be adjusted 2 mm in height below the upper edge of the door window when both the door window and the side window are up. Check the adjustment also with the hood open.

After VIN number W7055419/X7002872, ADJUSTMENT 6 and ADJUSTMENT 9:

The adjustment affects the side window height position.

Remove the tape piece on the water trap and release the extra upper stop, ADJUSTMENT 9.

The side window upper edge can be adjusted using the two upper stops, ADJUSTMENT 6, 2 mm in height below the upper edge of the door window when both the door window and the side window are up.

Check the adjustment also with the hood open. Run the side window up.

Move the extra upper stop, ADJUSTMENT 9, forwards and tighten the nuts. Fit a piece of tape over the hole in the water trap.

2. Check/adjust the side window lateral fixing. ADJUSTMENT 7. The adjustment affects how hard the side window presses against the hood seals..

The side window should press against the hood seals. The side window edge should engage under the seals. The pressure on the hood seals should be the same as for the door window.

3. Check/adjust the side window longitudinal fixing. ADJUSTMENT 8. The adjustment affects the side window longitudinal position and the distance between the door window and side window.

The distance between the door window rear edge and the side window seal front edge should be even and between 5 - 8 mm. Check the adjustment also with the hood open.

4. Check the adjustment.

With the hood and door closed:

Run the door window down and up with the side window up. Check that there is no major collision between the door window and the side window. The door window must not overlap with the side window.

Run the side window down and up with the door window up. Check that there is no major collision between the door window and the side window. The door window must not overlap with the side window.

5. Check the adjustment.

With the hood and door open:

Run the door window down and up with the side window up. Check that there is no major collision between the door window and the side window. The door window must not overlap with the side window.

Run the side window down and up with the door window up. Check that there is no major collision between the door window and the side window. The door window must not overlap with the side window.

If there is a major collision or overlap, check the adjustment of the door window and side window.

6. Fit the door water trap and interior equipment. Fit the side window inner seal, the rear speaker and interior trim.

7. Run the door and side windows down and up a few times with the hood and door closed.

8. If creaking or other noises are heard from the seal, lubricate these with 30 19 312 anti-friction agent.

9. Work the lubricant into the seals with clean hands, and leave to stand for a while, then check that the noise has disappeared.

Important

Anti-friction agent must not be used on the seal for the soft-top C-pillar.

Important

Use the recommended anti-friction agent. Do not use agents containing any form of silicone.

10. Check for water leaks by spraying with water from above. Do not use high pressure.

11. If there is a water leak, check the adjustment of the hood, seals and door and side windows.
