3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Adverse health effects

Irritant

Particular harmful effects for humans and the environment

Flammable. Irritating to skin. Risk of serious damage to eyes. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

General advice

In case of symptoms or uncertainty, seek medical advice. If casualty is unconscious, do not administer medicine orally.

Inhalation

Give fresh air and rest. Keep warm. If breathing irregularly or not breathing give artificial respiration. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical attention.

Skin

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash thoroughly with plenty of soap and water or other suitable detergent. Do not use solvents or thinners!

Eyes

Flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention for a checkup.

Ingestion

Seek medical advice immediately. Drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media

Foam (alcohol resistant), carbon dioxide, powder, water spray.

Extinguishing media that must not be used

Water jet.

Particular health hazards due to contact with the product, its products of combustion or gases that may form

Thick, black smoke forms in case of fire. Inhalation of harmful decomposition products may cause serious damage to health.

Special protective equipment for firefighters

Use self-contained respiratory equipment as appropriate.

Further information

Water may be used to cool unopened containers close to the fire.

6. SPILLAGE/ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Do not breathe vapour. See section 7 and 8 for safety precautions.

Environmental precautions

Do not empty into drains. In case of contamination to watercourses and sewage networks, contact the appropriate authorities as specified by local regulations.

Methods for cleaning up

Absorb spillage with non-flammable absorbent material such as sand, earth, vermikulite or kieselguhr, and place in a suitable waste disposal container in accordance with local regulations. If possible, use a detergent for sanitation. Avoid solvents and thinners.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Advice for safe handling

Avoid the formation of flammable or explosive solvent vapours. Do not exceed the admitted occupational exposure limits for the solvent components. The product must not be stored or used in the vicinity of naked flames, sparks or other sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges when refilling and handling. Ground the container and piping. We recommend the use of antistatic clothing and shoes. Use only non-sparking tools. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not breathe spray. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. See section 8 for personal protective equipment. Follow applicable safety regulations. If using a spray booth, all persons in the booth must use air-line breathing apparatus until the aerosol and solvent concentration is below the applicable limit.

Advice regarding protection against fire and explosion

The solvent vapours are heavier than air and spread at floor level. The vapours and air combine to form an explosive mixture.

Requirements of storage area and container

Keep well sealed in a cool, well-ventilated area. Keep away from sources of heat, sparks and naked flames. Reseal opened containers carefully and store upright to avoid leakage. Do not empty containers using compressed air.

Advice on storage with other materials

Keep away from strong acidic or alkali material and oxidizing agents.

Other advice on storage conditions

Must be stored in a container equivalent to the original container. Follow the directions on the label. Store at +5 to +30°C in a dry, well-ventilated area. Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Keep away from sources of ignition.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Technical measures

Use in a well ventilated area. In case of insufficient ventilation or the breaking of solvent exposure limits, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Exposure limits are available from the local authorities.

Other information

The specified exposure limits are taken form limit lists current at the time of preparation of the material safety data sheet.

Respiratory equipment

If the solvent concentration in the premises exceeds the limit, use approved respiratory equipment.

Hand protection

Wear protective nitrile rubber gloves. In case of prolonged or repeated contact, use a barrier cream for solvents on exposed areas of skin. Follow the directions of the manufacturer.

Eye protection

Wear eye protection to protect from splashes into the eyes.

Skin and body protection

Wear antistatic clothing made of natural fibres (cotton, wool, etc.) or high-temperature-resistant synthetic fibres. Wash contaminated clothing prior to continued use.

Hygiene measures:

In case of contact with skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Unsuitable environments

Stable under recommended storage and handling conditions, see section 7. High temperatures may produce dangerous decomposition products such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, fumes and nitrous oxides. Oxidizing agents, strong alkalis and strong acids may cause exothermic reactions.

Do not store with

Keep away from strong acidic and alkali substances and oxidizing agents, as these may cause an exothermic reaction.

Hazardous decomposition products:

High temperatures may produce dangerous decomposition products such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, fumes and nitrous oxides

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Inhalation

Breathing solvent concentrations above the stated limits may cause damage to health such as irritated mucus membranes and respiratory system, and damage to the liver, kidneys and nervous system. Symptoms: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, muscular weakness and, in serious cases, unconsciousness.

Skin

Prolonged or repeated contact with the preparation may defat the skin and may cause non-allergic skin damage (contact dermatitis) and the absorption of solvent through the skin.

Eyes

Contact with the eyes may cause irritation and reversible damage to the eyes.

General

No toxicological information about the preparation is available. The harmfulness of the product is based on the individual constituents in accordance with recommended methods of evaluation from the authorities.
