3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Health hazards

Under normal conditions of use, this product is not considered hazardous. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin irritation.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

General

Move the casualty from the source of exposure. If unconscious, place in the recover position and seek medical advice. If breathing has stopped, assist ventilation with a mechanical device or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If the casualty has no pulse, give cardiac massage.

Inhalation

Provide fresh air, warmth and rest. Administer oxygen if necessary. First aiders should have special training in administering oxygen. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

Skin

Take off contaminated clothing. Wash the skin with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists. Apply a rich skin cream to dry skin. Do not wash the skin with white spirit or other solvent.

Eyes

Rinse immediately with water for 20-30 minutes. Hold the eye wide open. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice. Give 1-2 spoonfuls of cream or cooking/salad oil if the casualty is fully conscious. Do not give an unconscious person anything to drink.

Medical information

Treat symptomatically. Risk of chemically-induced pneumonia if aspirated during or after swallowing. If necessary, contact the poison information centre, tel. 112.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media

Extinguish with powder, carbon dioxide or foam.

Unsuitable extinguishing media

Do not use water jet.

Fire and explosion risks

Can be ignited if heated to above its flash point. Small amounts of pollutant volatile hydrocarbons in used product can lower the flash point. The vapours are heavier than air and can reach distant sources of ignition via drains and the like. The product can accumulate static electricity which can cause ignition on discharge. Incomplete combustion produces toxic and highly flammable carbon monoxide. Incomplete combustion produces carbon dioxide, which forces aside air and oxygen.

Other instructions

Stop the leakage in a safe and controlled manner. Move and/or cool containers in the vicinity of the fire. Water for cooling heated surfaces and protecting personnel should only be used by trained firefighters. Rescue service personnel subjected to gas or fumes must wear breathing apparatus with fresh air supply and eye protection. Ring 112 for emergency services.

6. SPILLAGE/ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Precautions for avoiding personal injury

Stop the leak. Remove any sources of ignition. Limit the dispersion. Warn personnel in the vicinity and keep unauthorized persons away.

Environmental precautions

Keep away from drains, sewers and watercourses.

Methods for cleaning up

Soak up with special absorbent material and leave at a central waste facility. Contact the emergency services in case of large spillages. Wipe up small spillages with absorbent paper or cotton waste and store as flammable waste until they can be safely disposed of.

Other information

Beware of slippery surfaces due to the product itself or its ability to dissolve asphalt, flooring and the like. Possible vapours are more dense than air and can, if the spillage is large, collect along the floor or ground.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Special properties and risks

The product can accumulate static electricity with can cause ignition on discharge. Can react with strong oxidizing agents. Possible vapours are more dense than air and can collect along the floor or ground. Vapours can spread via sewage systems and the like and reach even distance sources of ignition.

Handling regulations

Provide adequate ventilation when handling open packages. Keep away from sources of ignition. Use personal protection equipment, refer to section 8.

Storage

Keep away from sources of ignition. No smoking. Keep small containers closed when not in use. Ensure good ventilation. Hydrocarbons and their derivatives can attack certain synthetic materials, rubber and paints.
