Activation Activation applies to Description Use
Injector Cyl 1 (max 30s.)

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the injector is active for 10 sec. at 10Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the injector should be heard operating. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Check the fuel flow as well if necessary.

Injector Cyl 2 (max 30s.)

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the injector is active for 10 sec. at 10Hz.

Ignition Coil Cyl 2

Boost Press. Valve

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the injector is active for 10 sec. at 90Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the injector should be heard operating. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Idle Air Control Valve

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the valve is active for 10 sec. with current 0.6A.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the valve should open. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Canister Purge Valve

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the injector is active for 10 sec. at 8Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the injector should be heard operating. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Preheating O2S 1

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to preheating is active for 10 sec.

Control of control output and electric circuit. When the output is active, sensor pin 1 should be grounded. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component. Connect the test lamp between pins 2 and B+ when checking.

Note: Preheating is powered from the main relay (Saab 9-3 only). The main relay is not active when activating the preheating and the sensor will therefore not heat up. If necessary, the main relay circuit can be powered form fuse 16b during activation. Diagnostic trouble code P0135 will be generated irrespective of whether the sensor is connected or not. Diagnostic trouble codes must be cleared after activation.

AC Relay

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the relay is active for 10 sec. at 1Hz.

Checking the control module output, the electric circuit and the actuator function. When the output is active, the solenoid clutch should engage. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the defective lead/component.

The refrigerant circuit must also be OK.

CHECK ENGINE Lamp

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the relay is active for 10 sec. at 1Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the lamp should go on. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

SHIFT UP Lamp

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the relay is active for 10 sec. at 1Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the lamp should go on. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Fuel Pump Relay

Crankshaft stationary. Activation time is limited to 30 seconds.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the relay is active for 10 sec. at 1Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator function. The pump should be heard operating when the output is active. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the defective lead/component. Note: The fuel pump relay is powered from the main relay. The main relay is not active when activating the fuel pump relay and the pump will therefore not be heard operating. If necessary, the main relay circuit can be powered from fuse 16b during activation.

Check the fuel pressure as well if necessary.

Main Relay

Crankshaft stationary.

The processor control of the transistor grounding the circuit. The control module output to the relay is active for 10 sec. at 1Hz.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, a test lamp connected between pins 6 and 10 on the ignition discharge module connector should go on. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.

Idling Adaption

Crankshaft stationary.

Current throttle position is adapted to a value for closed throttle.

This can be used to ensure the control module quickly finds the idle speed position of the throttle after it has been adjusted.

Boost Press. Reset

Crankshaft stationary.

Zeros boost pressure adaptation.

This should be activated after working on the boost pressure control. Generally speaking, adaptation will be at its end limit if such a fault has occurred. Otherwise, the fault may still seem to be present when road testing.

Brake Vacuum Pump

Crankshaft stationary.

Processor control of transistor that grounds the circuit.

Control of control module output, electric circuit and actuator operation. When the output is active, the injector should be heard operating. Otherwise, use a test lamp to locate the faulty lead/component.
