Part of rear frame member

Part of rear frame member

The rear abutment must be removed when the frame member is to be replaced.

Important

The frame member must only be cut and joined behind the marking as shown. If the damage extends further, the entire frame member must be replaced.

Position the car in an aligning bench and cross-measure if necessary.

1. Cut the frame member.

2. Drill out the spot-welds and remove the damaged part of the frame member.

3. Align any sheet metal or panel damage.

4. Cut the spare part so that it overlaps the intended joint line by approximately three centimetres.

5. Fit the spare part and fixate with a few welding clamps. Measure out the exact position using the aligning bench measuring system.

6. Cut through the spare part and the old frame member at the same time so that the joint can be welded edge-to-edge.

7. Remove the spare part and grind clean the surfaces to be welded on the body and spare part.

8. Apply welding primer on the surfaces to be welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

9. Fit the spare part and fixate with a few welding clamps.

10. All-weld the joint on the frame member.

11. Plug-weld the frame member to the luggage compartment floor.

12. Remove any remaining welding primer. Welding primer reduces adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

13. Apply primer to the ground surfaces. Use Standox 1K Fullprimer.

14. Seal joints and sheet metal flanges with sealant. Use Terostat 1K-PUR.

15. Apply PVC substitute to the underbody. Use Terostat 9320.

16. Apply anti-corrosion agent to the interior of the frame member. Use Terotex HV 400 T 129 or Mercasol 3.
