Bonnet, doors and bootlid, detailed description

Bonnet

The bonnet is manufactured of aluminium. Note that a special primer must be used when painting aluminium; consult your supplier.

The bonnet locking mechanism consists of two spring locks located in the radiator member that lock onto two spring-loaded locking pins on the bonnet when it is closed.

When the bonnet lock is released, the front edge of the bonnet is raised. The bonnet can then be opened by releasing a catch located in the centre of the bonnet.

The bonnet lock is operated by a wire from the bonnet release lever on the left-hand side of the cabin under the dashboard on LHD cars and on the right-hand side on RHD cars.

The bonnet is equipped with a gas lifting spring that holds the bonnet open. The gas spring is located on the left-hand side of the front wing with anchor points on ball studs in the body and bonnet. In order to improve access and lighting, the bonnet can be placed in a service position by lifting up the bonnet a little bit further.

The hinges, which are single jointed and lubrication free, are fixed to the body and bonnet in a way that allows for forward, backward and lateral adjustments.

Doors

The door impact member is made with HSS. The hinge brackets are bolted to the door and body and hinge joints on the front and rear doors are lubrication free. The doors are adjustable.

The door catch arms in the front and rear doors are bolted to the body and door. The door catch arms, which are made of plastic, are lubrication-free.

Tailgate

The bootlid's hinge is bolted to the body and bootlid and is possible to adjust forwards, backwards and sideways. The bootlid has two mechanical springs, which are positioned on both sides of the boot opening and have mountings on the body. The springs can be adjusted depending on the weight of bootlid, for example , when fitting a spoiler, by moving the springs' fastening hook.

The bootlid is opened by pressing the bootlid opening button on the remote control or with the switch located in the driver's door. There is a microswitch on the bootlid handle that must be held in to open the lid. The microswitch delivers a brief signal to the REC control module and the bootlid will open.

US/CA: If anyone should be shut in the boot there is a handle in a fluorescent material on the inside of the bootlid. The handle should be pulled downwards towards the floor to release the bolt and the bootlid can then be opened from the inside.
