Auxiliary heater (LHD)

To remove


1. Disconnect the negative battery lead.


2. Undo the clamp securing the heater exhaust pipe to the auxiliary heater.

3. Raise the car and remove the spoiler shield. Unplug the connector on the bumper and remove it from the holder on the spoiler shield.

Cars with headlamp washers: Remove the hose from the spoiler shield.


4. Place a receptacle under the engine. Fit a hose to the radiator drain nipple, open the nipple and drain the coolant.


5. Remove the heater exhaust pipe.


6. Lower the car.


7. Remove the expansion tank cap.

8. Remove the engine cover.

9. Unplug the fuel filter. Lift the filter out of its holder and place it to one side.

10. Unplug the heater connector.

11. Remove the hose to the wastegate diaphragm unit from the clip on the coolant hose.


12. Remove both coolant hoses from the connector to the cabin and disconnect them from the clip on the bulkhead.

13. Bend aside the coolant hose that is connected to the engine.

14. Remove the coolant hose that is connected between the heater and the cylinder head, from the cylinder head connection and from the clip on the fuel filter hose.

15. Remove the wastegate diaphragm unit and place it to one side.

16. Remove the heater from the mounting on the bulkhead.


17. Remove the fuel hose from the heater using 83 95 261 Fuel line tool .

Warning

The work involved in removing the fuel pipe requires working with the vehicle's fuel system. The following points should therefore be heeded in conjunction with these measures:

• Have a class BE fire extinguisher on hand! Be aware of the risk of sparks, i.e. in connection with electric circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

• Absolutely No Smoking!

• Ensure good ventilation! If there is approved ventilation for evacuating fuel fumes then this must be used.

• Wear protective gloves! Prolonged exposure of the hands to fuel can cause irritation to the skin.

• Wear protective goggles.


18. Remove the auxiliary heater.

Important

There is still coolant in the auxiliary heater. Take care so as not to deform the auxiliary heater intake hose.



To fit


1. Fit the heater to the mounting on the bulkhead.


2. Connect the coolant hose to the cylinder head.


3. Connect the coolant hoses to the connector to the cabin and fit them to the clip on the bulkhead.

4. Fit the wastegate diaphragm unit and fit its hose to the clip on the coolant hose.

5. Plug in the heater connector.


6. Feed the heater's suction hose into the hole in the longitudinal member.

7. Fit the fuel filter and plug it in.

8. Raise the car.


9. Insert the heater exhaust pipe and fit it to the car floor.

10. Close the drain plug on the radiator and remove the hose.


11. Raise the spoiler shield, fit the bumper connector into the holder and plug in the connector.

Cars with headlamp washers: Fit the hose to the spoiler shield. All cars: Fit the spoiler shield.

12. Lower the car.


13. Connect the exhaust pipe to the heater.

14. Fill the system will coolant and check for leaks. Fit the cap to the expansion tank.


15. Connect the negative battery cable.

16. Fit the engine cover.

17. Bleed the cooling system .

18. Carry out Procedures after reconnecting the battery .

19. Cars with headlamp washers: Check the function of the headlamp washers.

20. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary.
