Oil cooler

To remove

Warning

The cooling system is under pressure. Hot coolant and steam can escape.

- Open the cap slowly to release the pressure.

- Carelessness can cause eye and burn injuries



1. Drain the coolant, see Draining, cooling system .

2. Remove the lower engine cover.

3. Place a receptacle under the engine to collect the oil and coolant.

4. Remove the oil filter cover with 83 96 129 Oil filter tool B207, and camshaft drive chain tensioner to drain the coolant. Refit the cover.

5. Remove the oil pressure switch connector.


6. Remove the coolant hoses from the oil cooler.

7. Remove the front right wheel.

8. Remove the steering swivel member bolt, fold down the suspension arm and put a 83 95 238 Wedge between the suspension arm and the anti-roll bar.


9. Detach the brake hose from the clip and the ABS cable holder.

Warning

Use protective goggles to protect against flying splinters of metal.


10. Tap out the drive shaft from the intermediate shaft using a brass drift and sledgehammer. Move the drive shaft away.


11. Remove the oil cooler bolts. Lift out the oil cooler through the wheel housing.



To fit


1. Clean the oil cooler connections on the engine block.

2. Fit the oil cooler with new seals greased with Vaseline.

Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft).


3. Fit the coolant hoses.

4. Plug in the oil pressure switch connector.

5. Lubricate the drive shaft splines with 90 513 210 Universal paste and make sure the rubber seal is in place on the shaft.

6. Insert the drive shaft into the intermediate shaft, making sure the circlips engage.

Important

Press up the pin carefully.

The groove in the pin must be visible in the screw hole in the spindle housing.

If the rubber gaiter is pressed down, it will not seal properly to the swivel pin.



7. Remove the wedge and connect the ball joint to the steering swivel member with nut and bolt. The pin must be visible above the steering swivel member before fitting the bolt. Tighten the nut.

Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft).

8. Fit the brake hose clip and the ABS cable holder.

9. Fit the wheel .

10. Fit the lower engine cover.

11. Lower the car.

12. Connect the battery cable.

13. Carry out Cooling system, pressure testing .

14. Carry out Filling and bleeding the cooling system.

15. Check the oil level and top up as necessary.

16. Start the engine and check that the oil cooler is not leaking.

17. Carry out Procedures after reconnecting the battery .
