To remove


1. Connect the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the engine cover.

Warning

The cooling system is under pressure. Hot coolant and steam can escape.

- Open the cap slowly to release the pressure.

- Carelessness can cause eye and burn injuries



3. Undo the expansion tank cap to release pressure and then retighten the cap.

4. Clamp the water hoses for the heater with 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers .

5. Raise the car.

6. Remove the lower engine cover.


7. Remove the heater exhaust pipe.


8. Place a bowl under the car and remove the water hoses from the heater. Plug the connections to the heater.

Warning

The work involved in removing the fuel pipe requires working with the vehicle's fuel system. The following points should therefore be heeded in conjunction with these measures:

• Have a class BE fire extinguisher on hand! Be aware of the risk of sparks, i.e. in connection with electric circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

• Absolutely No Smoking!

• Ensure good ventilation! If there is approved ventilation for evacuating fuel fumes then this must be used.

• Wear protective gloves! Prolonged exposure of the hands to fuel can cause irritation to the skin.

• Wear protective goggles.


9. Remove the fuel line using 83 95 261 Fuel line tool .

10. Lower the car.

11. Remove the wiring harness mounting from the engine.

12. Detach the wiring harness from the structural member.

13. Unhook the engine fuel line from the clip on the bulkhead.

14. Hold the fuel line and wiring harness out of the way.

15. Undo the heater electric connection and pull the heater intake hose from the structural member.


16. Remove the bolt holding the heater to the mounting, loosen the two hooks and fold out the heater.

17. Lift up the heater.


To fit


1. Fit the heater to the mounting and tighten the bolt.


2. Fit the intake hose to the structural member and connect the heater electrics.

3. Fit the fuel line to the heater.


4. Fit the wiring harness mounting on the engine.

5. Fit the wiring harness and fuel hose to their mountings.

6. Raise the car.

7. Fit the water hoses to the heater.

8. Fit the heater exhaust pipe.

9. Fit the lower engine cover.


10. Lower the car.

11. Remove the hose pinch-off pliers.

12. Fit the engine cover.


13. Fit the battery negative cable.

14. Pressure test the cooling system, see Cooling system, pressure testing .

15. Fill with coolant, see Filling and bleeding the cooling system, Z19 .

16. Test start the heater.

17. Carry out Procedures after reconnecting the battery .
