Description

The Saab Infotainment system has three different control modules depending on the equipment selected for the car. Various audio, navigation and telephone systems can be connected to these control modules.

The Audio system has a keypad for the Premium 70 or Premium 150 sound systems. There is no display and only buttons and knobs for the radio and CD.

The Infotainment system with a small display also has a keypad for an integrated phone, in addition to the buttons for the Premium 150 or Prestige 300 sound systems.

The Infotainment System Plus has a large display and keypad for the Prestige 300 sound system and telephone or telematics system. The large display is used for navigation.

All infotainment systems use the SID unit for displaying certain information.

Cars with audio system Premium 70 are equipped with 4 speakers; two in the dashboard and two in the rear of the car ( 4D: in the parcel shelf, CV: in the rear side trim). With the Premium 150 an amplifier is added to drive two speakers in the front doors and a central speaker in the dashboard. Audio system Prestige 300 has a total of 13 speakers throughout the car with an additional amplifier for the two subwoofers.

The entertainment unit is a radio receiver, the receiver for the CD player, a sound generator for warning tones, the player for both radio and CD and the transmitter for telephone sound. The infotainment system control panel is thus the control panel for the sound system. Information about the selected radio station or the chosen CD and track is in the first instance read from the SID display and thereafter from the control panel display. If the car is equipped with Saab Infotainment or Saab Infotainment Plus, a portable unit such as an MP3 player can be connected to the audio system's AUX connection which is located in the centre console.

An optional single-disc CD player or 6-disc CD changer can be fitted under the ICM in the dashboard. All modules in the infotainment system are provided with anti-theft protection since they are "married" to the car. The entertainment head unit, amplifier, CD player and ICM use the O-bus for communicating with each other.

4D: The heating element on the rear window acts as an FM receiver while AM reception is provided by two separate wires in the rear window. For improved FM reception, the car can also be fitted with a diversity antenna integrated in the AM antenna. An antenna amplifier amplifies and sends the antenna signal to the EHU.

CV: The radio antenna (FM/AM) is located on the right-hand side of the soft top cover. An antenna amplifier (624b) in the antenna base transmits antenna signals to the EHU via the bypass unit (624a) located at the right-hand A-pillar.
