Cars in stock must be rectified before delivery.

A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.

Cars affected

9-3 M05 within Vehicle Identification Number range 51000001 - 51059165, with engine alternative Z19 and automatic transmission.

Background

The screw for the driver disc to the torque converter can lose clamping force. This may result in scraping noise or rattling from the torque converter and in some cases cause damage to the transmission.

Symptom description

Scraping noise or rattling from the torque converter.



Parts required

55 561 834 Screw, 6 per car

90 542 117 Locking fluid OmniFIT 100M (sufficient for approx. 100 cars)

For fitting the modification identity plate:

12 785 148 Modification identity plate

93 160 907 Cleaning agent Motip Dupli, aerosol 400 ml (sufficient for 50-100 cars)

Procedure

Checking the modification identity plate

Before proceeding, check box A5 of the modification identity plate. From and including M04, the table "Table of Modifications" can be found in the car's Warranty and Service Book. A modification identity plate must be fitted in accordance with the section "Fitting the modification identity plate" where local directives require the marking of the car. If the box is not marked, continue as follows.


1. Remove the starter motor in accordance with WIS - Electrical System - Starting system - Adjustment/Replacement - Starter motor, Z19.

Note

Lower the starter motor to the left through the wheel housing.


2. Position a rag in the opening between the driver disc and the protective place to prevent the screw from falling behind the driver disc. Remove one torque converter screw. Use a magnetic socket.


3. Apply locking fluid 90 542 117 on a new torque converter screw and fit the screw.

Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

4. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise via the belt pulley and repeat the procedure on the other 5 screws.

5. Fit the starter motor in accordance with WIS - Electrical System - Starting system - Adjustment/Replacement - Starter motor, Z19.


Marking the modification identity plate

After carrying out the procedure, box A5 on the modification identity plate must be marked. From and including M04 the table "Table of Modifications" can be found in the car's Warranty and Service Book. Mark the box with the number "7" if the procedure was carried out by the importer or with the number "8" if carried out by the dealer.

Fitting the modification identity plate

Note

A modification identity plate must only be fitted where local directives require the marking of the car.
