BACKGROUND

The root cause was an insufficient sealing between the nipples for the oil cooling lines and cooler.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Check Gear box Light is on & DTC P 0715 00 + P 0720 00 in TCM, also bad shifting points, and sometimes noise when shifting gears.

ACTION

Check the ATF oil quality, take a sample of ATF in a boiling tube, or if not available use a metal spoon with a sample of fluid . Using a cigarette lighter heat the underside the tube/spoon and after approx 30 seconds you will see bubbles rising if there is coolant present in the ATF.

Note: Wear eye protection to guard your eyes from any hot oil splashes!

If you clearly have identified coolant in the ATF oil, then replace complete transmission, and rework vehicles as described in : M I 260-2634, Ed 2 (Service Campaign 15446)

Repair oil cooler with new connections,

Clean oil cooler hoses carefully, using compressed air,

Flush oil cooler with approx. 200 ml ATF oil,

Check if coolant has been contaminated by ATF and replace if necessary.

Erase old adaptation values in TCM and perform a new adaptation.
