Setting valve timing

To remove

Note

Set while the engine is cold - room temperature.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. Remove the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .

3. Remove the multi-belt - see Multi-belt, removing and fitting .

4. Remove the right front wheel.

5. Remove the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .


Adjusting


1. Undo the bolt on the drive belt tensioning pulley and turn the eccenter adjuster in the direction of the arrow (clockwise) until the pointer (1) is close to the left-hand stop.


2. Remove the tooth belt from the camshaft sprockets.

Important

Take care when rotating the crankshaft. Incorrect adjustment may cause mechanical contact resulting in damage to components, e.g. valves on pistons.


3. Screw in the drive belt pulley bolt into the crankshaft.

4. Set the crankshaft (III) and the camshafts (I) (short distance) to the mark.


5. The marks on the camshaft sprockets must be in front of each other. Fix the camshaft sprockets with KM-852 (II). Turn the crankshaft slowly and evenly.


To fit


1. Put on the tooth belt - check that the pull side (I) is taut.


Important

Note the valve timing marks.


2. Adjust the tooth belt tension - see Tooth belt tension, setting .

3. Fit the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .

4. Fit the tensioning device for the multi-belt - see Tensioning device for multi-belt, removing and fitting .

5. Fit the wing liner on the right-hand side.

6. Fit the front left wheel

7. Fit the multi-belts - see Multi-belt, removing and fitting .

8. Fit the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .

9. Connect the ground cable to the battery.
