Rear exhaust manifold

Rear exhaust manifold

To remove

1. Remove Front catalytic converter, B284E .

2. Relieve the tension on the drive belt and remove it from the generator pulley.

3. Detach the generator from the bracket and lower it slightly.

4. Raise the car.

5. Remove the heat shield of the exhaust manifold.

6. Lower the car.

7. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe.

8. Raise the car.

9. Detach the rear secondary air pipe between the exhaust manifold and the check valve.

10. Remove the exhaust manifold.

To fit

1. Clean the contact surfaces from gasket residue and soot.

2. Fit new gaskets. Coat the studs with 90 513 210 Universal paste .

3. Fit the exhaust manifold using new bolts and a new gasket.

Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

4. Attach the rear secondary air pipe between the exhaust manifold and the check valve.

5. Lower the car.

6. Attach the intermediate exhaust pipe to the turbocharger and the front exhaust manifold. Use a new gasket and coat the studs with 90 513 210 Universal paste. Fit all nuts.

Important

The conical side of the nut should face the centre exhaust pipe.

7. Tighten the nuts as illustrated - first on the exhaust manifold and then on the turbocharger.

Tightening order 7a, 7b, 7c and 7d alternatingly on the turbocharger.

Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

Important

The surfaces should align with one another when the nuts are fitted. Check using a feeler gauge. If the surfaces are not flat or the pipe is deformed, the centre exhaust pipe and/or exhaust manifold must be replaced.

8. Raise the car.

9. Fit the heat shield on the exhaust manifold.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

10. Lower the car.

11. Fit the generator to the bracket.

12. Fit the drive belt.

13. Fit Front catalytic converter, aut. B284E
