Rear wiper activated when reverse engaged and wiper stalk in OFF position

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3 SW with rain sensing wiper.

BACKGROUND

Rear wiper should be activated when reverse is engaged and the wiper stalk is ON: speed 1, speed 2 or active rain sensor position. Due to a software bug in UEC (under hood electrical center) this rear wipe could be triggered when reverse is engaged even if the wiper stalk is switched to OFF position.

CONDITIONS

When using rain sensor mode and the wiper is trigged to a quicker wipe than speed 1 and than the stalk is moved to OFF position before the ignition is switched OFF it will get in to this mode where the rear wipe will be activated when reverse are engaged regardless of the wiper stalk position. If the stalk is in active rain sensor position when the ignition is switched OFF , it will work as designed.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Rear wiper is trigged when reverse is engaged even if the stalk is switched OFF .

ACTION

N.B Do not replace parts.

This issue is judged as a minor issue and will be corrected in conjunction with next UEC (under hood electrical center) software update.

To get out of this mode, activate the rain sensor, spray water on wind shield/ or drive in rain to get the rain sensor activate wiper on higher speed then interval and switch OFF the car with the wiper stalk in rain sensor mode. or remove fuse F16 and F26 in UEC (30 Amp micro fuses), install the fuses. Inform customer to keep the stalk in active rain sensor position when switching OFF ignition.
