Rear window wash and wipe, detailed description, 5D

General

The rear wash and wipe system is operated with the slider on the wiper stalk switch to the right of the steering wheel.

The following functions can be chosen with the control:

OFF

Single wiper stroke (spring-loaded to the left), (A)

Intermittent operation (ON), (B)

Wash and wipe (spring-loaded to right), (C)

The stalk switch is connected to CIM (703). Depending on the position of the stalk, CIM sends a bus message that is used by REC (701) where the logic for the function is.

Single wiper stroke (A)

Moving the slider from OFF to the left spring-loaded position will make CIM (703) send a bus message informing of the stalk position. This is used by REC (701), which will activate a relay whereby a short starting impulse (B+) is fed from REC pin 1 (T-D) to the wiper motor pin 2. This starting impulse starts the motor moving and closes the internal switch in the motor so that the motor is powered from REC pin 5 (T-A). The motor will stop in its starting position when the switch is returned to its original position.

Intermittent operation (B)

When the slider is moved to ON, CIM (703) will send a bus message informing of the stalk position. This is used by REC (701), which will activate a relay, whereby a short voltage pulse (B+) is fed from REC pin 1 (T-D) to the wiper motor pin 2. This starting impulse starts the motor moving and closes the internal switch in the motor so that the motor is powered from REC pin 5 (T-A). The motor will stop in its starting position when the switch is returned to its original position.

If gear position R is selected, the wiper will make one stroke to clean the window. This procedure is repeated every 8 seconds. Activation is delayed for 320 ms to avoid unnecessary wiper strokes when the selector lever is moved from P to D.

Wash and wipe (C)

When the slider is moved to the right to its spring-loaded position, CIM (703) will send a bus message informing of the position of the stalk. If the float sensor for the washer fluid level indicates low, it will not be possible to wash the rear window.

Washing:

UEC (342) activates the relay (432c), whereby voltage B+ is fed on UEC pin 43(F) to the washer pump (63c) pin 1. The pump pin 2 is connected to grounding point G30B. Washing will continue for as long as the stalk is in the washing position.

Wiping:

REC (701) activates the rear window wiper relay (83a) after a delay of 0.6 seconds so that the water has time to moisten the window. A short B+ voltage pulse is fed out from REC pin 1 (T-D) to the wiper motor pin 2. This starting impulse starts the motor moving and closes the internal switch in the motor so that the motor is powered from REC pin 5 (T-A). The wiper motor will be active for as long as washing is in progress. The wiper will make 3 extra strokes once washing has ceased to wipe the window dry. If the vehicle is travelling below 40 km/h, there will be an extra stroke after 5 seconds.
