Checking the modification identity plate (not US/CA)

Before proceeding, check box C4 of the modification identity plate. From and including M04, the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". A modification identity plate must be fitted in accordance with the section "Fitting the modification identity plate" where local directives require the marking of the car. If the box is not marked, continue as follows.

Procedure

Note

The procedure must be carried out on a cold engine.

1. Make sure that the car has been updated with the latest engine management system software available in Tis2Web.

If the car's software is not the latest, download the software in Tech2. While the software is being checked and/or downloaded, carry out steps 2 to 18.

2. Is the expansion tank marked part no. 12842086?

Yes: Continue with step 19.

No: Continue with step 3.

3. Undo the expansion tank cap and remove the upper engine cover.

4. Suck the coolant (about 1.4 l) out of the expansion tank with suitable drainage equipment.

5. Detach the breather hose (A) and the turbocharger cooling return hose (B). Retain the hose clips.

6. Lift up the expansion tank.

7. Clamp the coolant hose using hose pinch-off pliers 30 07 739.

8. Remove level sensor connector (A) and coolant hose quick coupling (B) from expansion tank.

9. Remove the expansion tank (C).

10. Apply the label onto the side of the new expansion tank (ME, JP, CN, CA).

12 841 752 Label sheet for market ME (label 12 761 985 should be used)

12 841 753 Label sheet for market JP (label 12 761 986 should be used)

12 841 754 Label sheet for market CN (label 12 767 974 should be used)

12 781 189 Label sheet for market CA (label 12 761 987 should be used)

11. Fit the coolant hose's quick coupling (B) to the new expansion tank (C).

12. Remove hose pinch-off pliers.

13. Clean off any coolant spills.

14. Plug in the level sensor connector (A).

15. Fit the expansion tank (C) and the upper engine cover.

16. Attach the new breather hose (A) and the new return hose for the turbocharger cooling (B).

Expansion tank: use the clips provided with the kit.

Engine: re-use the dismantled clips.

Note

New routing of hoses, see the illustration.

17. Test pressurise the cooling system, in accordance with TIS2Web - Engine - V6 petrol - Cooling system - Repair instructions - Test pressurising the cooling system.

18. Fill coolant (about 1.4 l) (coolant mixed with water, equal parts of each).

19. If needed, connect battery charger and update engine management system with latest software.

If an update is made, the radiator fan's connection times will be changed. Inform the customer that the fan will be activated more often and remain connected for longer periods at high engine temperatures.

Marking the modification identity plate (not US/CA)

After carrying out the procedure, box C4 on the modification identity plate must be marked. From and including M04 the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". Mark the box with the number "7" if the procedure was carried out by the importer or with the number "8" if carried out by the dealer.
