(210-2488) Oil warning and reduced performance in running-in phase

Symptom: 1. An oil warning message may arise despite the oil level being above the min. line on the dipstick. This may occur while driving at constant speed on main roads and for longer distances on level roads. 2. The running-in distance for the Z19 is approx. 4000 - 5000 km. Prior to this the car may produce slightly lower torque than specified. 3. Regeneration of the particle filter takes place approx. every 1000 km. This lasts for several seconds and is accompanied by a small temporary reduction in engine performance.

Saab 9-3 M05 with engine alternative Z19 (1.9 diesel).

Background

It is important that the customer is informed of the following three symptoms that the car may have.

Symptom description

1. An oil warning message may arise despite the oil level being above the min. line on the dipstick. This may occur while driving at constant speed on main roads and for longer distances on level roads.

2. The running-in distance for the Z19 is approx. 4000 - 5000 km. Prior to this the car may produce slightly lower torque than specified.

3. Regeneration of the particle filter takes place approx. every 1000 km. This lasts for several seconds and is accompanied by a small temporary reduction in engine performance.



Procedure


1. Advise the customer to check the oil level after an oil warning and to fill up to max. level if necessary. If the oil is already at the max. level, press the instrument panel's clear button.

Note

Never overfill the engine, see the Owner's Manual for checking oil level.


2. Advise the customer that the running-in distance for the car is approx. 4000 - 5000 km.

3. Advise the customer that the reduction in performance is normal when the particle filter is regenerating.
