Leakage at power steering pump

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3 Sport with Diesel engines.

BACKGROUND

Due to a sharp edge on the guide for the high-pressure pipe that cuts into the cavity, enough clamping force may not be reached. This may lead to oil leakage.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Leakage occurs at connection high-pressure pipe and power steering pump.

ACTION

1. Loosen the hollow screw for the banjo fitting approx.180 degrees or until the banjo and the pipe become loose and can be moved easily by hand.

2. From the original position, turn the banjo fitting carefully some degree anti-clockwise, hold it in position and tighten the hollow screw and torque.

Tightening torque 32 Nm (24 lbf ft)

3. Clean the pump carefully and check for leakages at high joining.

4. If there still is a leakage replace the seal for the banjo joining and repeat issue.
