The refrigerant contains a leakage tracing matter in the form of a tracing agent. The tracing agent dye is in the form of a tablet in the receiver. The tracing agent is dissolved in the compressor oil and spreads throughout the refrigerant system. The self-illuminated yellow colour makes it possible to detect the smallest of leaks in the refrigerant system.
When refrigerant and compressor oil are drained, tracing agent is drained as well. When compressor oil is filled, an amount of tracing agent is added to make it easier to check for leaks. This is not the case if a new receiver is mounted as it already contains tracing agent.
Identification of the tracing agent requires use of an UV lamp and special glasses, which are described in the workshop manual "1:4 workshop equipment". The refrigerant system is illuminated with the UV lamp. The special glasses make leaking refrigerant visible due to the self-illuminating yellow colour.

When using the UV lamp and special glasses, pure engine oil in the form of a drop has a similar fourescent effect as signal colour. |
