Because the car's electrical system is consumes current, there are two different modes: transport mode and customer mode.
| Transport mode |
Minimises the car's current consumption during transport from the factory to the customer. In this mode, many customer-oriented functions, such as central locking of rear doors, rear window lifts and audio/navigation system, are not available. As an exception, the car can be taken out of this mode during handling up until pre-delivery service is performed, such as on cars displayed in showrooms for example. If the car is put in customer mode, the condition of the battery must be checked more often.
Function description: Activating transport mode
The front electrical centre transmits a signal on the I-bus indicating that the fuse has been removed. At the same time, control modules that are supplied power via this fuse (such as the parking assistance, sunroof and rear door modules) are deactivated in the REC (rear electrical centre).The Body Control Module (BCM) reads the signal and then transmits a message on the I-bus indicating that transport mode is active. This affects the control modules for customer functions/comfort functions that are not needed to safety move the car. They are then not supplied power by maxifuse 37 and the REC (rear electrical centre). This operation occurs only upon cycling of the ignition to distinguish from the fuse blowing while driving, at which time other indications/warnings would be given to the driver.

Activating transport mode
Move the transport fuse from position 37 to TRANSPORT and turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Wait until the text "Transport fuse removed" appears in the main instrument unit and then turn off the ignition and remove the key. The car is now in transport mode.

If the ignition key is not turned to "Ignition on" then the car will not be set in transport mode because the information indicating that transport mode has been selected is not sent on the I-bus. |

All functions (as per car specification) are now available for the customer-
Note that only the combination of fitting/removing maxifuse 37 and turning the ignition key to the "ON" position will change the mode. Starting and moving the car will change the selected mode if the fuse has been fitted/removed (Customer or Transport mode).
Function description: Activating customer mode
The front electrical centre transmits a signal on the I-bus indicating that the fuse is fitted.The Body Control Module (BCM) reads this signal and then transmits a message on the I-bus indicating that customer mode is active. This occurs only upon cycling of the ignition in order to reactivate customer functions (customer mode).
No indication in MIU. Only the "normal view" appears.
Activating customer mode
Move the transport fuse from TRANSPORT to position 37 and turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Wait until the text "System check" in the main instrument unit shows "OK" and then turn off the ignition and remove the key. The car is now in customer mode.

| Test-drive/showroom cars |
Maintenance charging is recommended to prevent the battery from becoming discharged and damaged. Charging should be adapted to current consumption. Too high a voltage/current from the charger could damage the battery due to overcharging.
If maintenance charging is not possible, the battery must be checked often (frequency determined by current consumption) - at least once a week. Use the standard battery analyser to check the status of the battery.
