Warning

The work involved in removing the fuel pipe requires working with the vehicle's fuel system. The following points should therefore be heeded in conjunction with these measures:

• Have a class BE fire extinguisher on hand! Be aware of the risk of sparks, i.e. in connection with electric circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

• Absolutely No Smoking!

• Ensure good ventilation! If there is approved ventilation for evacuating fuel fumes then this must be used.

• Wear protective gloves! Prolonged exposure of the hands to fuel can cause irritation to the skin.

• Wear protective goggles.


Important

Be particulary observant regardning cleanliness when working on the fuel system. Loss of function may occur due to very small particles. Prevent dirt and grime from entering the fuel system by cleaning the connections and plugging pipes and lines during disassembly. Use 82 92 948 Plugs, A/C system assembly. Keep components free from contaminants during storage.



1. Remove the Fuel tank .

2. Remove the connector. Mark the fitting position for the fuel line, return line and parking heater line (if fitted).


3. Remove the quick couplings to the fuel line, return line and parking heater line with 83 95 261 Fuel line tool . Plug the lines with plug kit 82 92 948 Plugs, A/C system, kit .

4. Remove the circlip. Turn anticlockwise. Take note of how the cable and hose couplings are routed in the fuel tank. Mark the position of the threaded cover over the maintenance hole.

5. Undo and remove the cover over the maintenance hole:

Carefully raise the threaded cover from over the maintenance hole. Unplug the fuel level sensor.


6. Remove the sealing ring.

7. Press out and hold the catch for the fuel level sensor. Remove the fuel level sensor from the guide.



To fit


1. Press the fuel level sensor into the guide. Let the catch (arrow) snap into place.


2. Plug in the fuel level sensor.


3. Fit a new sealing ring.

4. Carefully insert the cover into the maintenance hole.

5. Fit the circlip. Turn clockwise.


6. Remove the plugs and fit the fuel lines.

7. Fit the connector.

8. Fit the Fuel tank .
