Airbag control module (331)

Warning

Read through Safety and handling instructions and Before removing a control module before starting work.


Carry out measures before dismantling the control module .

To remove

Warning

The battery's ground cable must be removed before the positive cable. Wait for at least 1 minute after disconnecting the battery before beginning any work on the airbag system. Otherwise the airbag may be deployed unintentionally and this can cause fatal/severe personal injuries.



1. Ignition key in the position LOCK.

2. Removing the passenger seat .

3. Release the handbrake.

4. Remove the centre console's front side panel.


5. Remove the centre console's rear side panel.

6. Remove the centre console's rear cover.

7. Dismantle the connector to the ignition switch.

8. Remove the rear legroom adjuster screws on the centre console's aluminium frame.


9. Remove the front legroom adjuster screws on the centre console's aluminium frame.

10. Dismantle the screws that hold the Airbag Control Module.


11. Drive in a wedge between the floor and the aluminium frame so that the aluminium frame is lifted about 2 cm.

Important

Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection .


12. Dismantle the Airbag Control Module's two connectors.

13. Lift up and carefully move the Airbag Control Module out between the aluminium frame and the floor.


To fit

Warning

Do not connect the control module before it is fitted.



1. Fit the Airbag Control Module by inserting it between the centre console's aluminium frame and the floor into its position. Tighten the screws that hold the Airbag Control Module.


Tightening torque up to and including M06 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

Tightening torque from and including M07 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)

Important

Take care when plugging in the connector so as not to damage or press out the pins/sleeves in the connector. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection .


2. Fit the two connectors to the Airbag Control Module.

3. Remove the wedge.

4. Fit the front legroom adjuster screws on the centre console's aluminium frame.


Note

Adjust the centre console so that it aligns with the front panel by using the adjuster screws.


5. Fit the rear legroom adjuster screws on the centre console's aluminium frame.

6. Fit the connector to the ignition switch.

7. Fit the centre console's rear cover.


8. Fit the centre console's rear side panel.

9. Fit the centre console's front side panel.

10. Fit the passenger seat .

11. Perform the procedure for after fitting a control module .

12. Connect the battery.

13. Turn ON the ignition and check the airbag system and control module using the diagnostic tool as follows:

Connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector under the dashboard. Delete any diagnostic trouble codes.

Turn the ignition OFF and then ON again. Wait at least 10 seconds with the ignition on. Check whether a diagnostic trouble code is shown:

If a diagnostic trouble code is shown:

Carry out fault diagnosis according to the instructions under respective trouble codes.

If a diagnostic trouble code is not shown:

The assembly was successful. Disconnect the diagnostic tool.

14. Carry out Measures after disconnecting the battery .
