Brake caliper, holder, rear, 4WD

To remove


1. Raise the car.

2. Remove the wheel.

3. Remove the bolts for the bushings (A), and fold down the anti-roll bar (B).


4. Remove the retaining spring (A) from the brake caliper.


5. Remove the protective covers (B) and the guide pins (C).

6. Hang up the brake caliper (A) using a cable tie


7. Remove the outer and inner brake pads.

8. Remove the holder from the steering swivel member (A).



To fit


1. Clean the contact surfaces between the steering swivel member and the brake caliper carrier.

2. Fit the brake caliper holder to the steering swivel member (A). Apply 74 96 268 Thread locking adhesive to the bolts.

Tightening torque 130 Nm +45° (96 lbf ft +45°)


3. If necessary: Screw in the brake piston (A) with 89 96 969 Resetting tool (B) and 89 96 977 Adapter (C) .


Important

Check that the rubber gaiter does not turn when the brake piston is screwed in. Otherwise cracks may appear in the gaiter.


4. Lubricate the pad sliding and contact surfaces with Special paste .


5. Fit the brake pads to the holder and cut off the cable tie.

Note

Check that the inner pad locates in the piston's groove.


6. Fit the brake caliper with the guide pins (C) and the protective covers (B).

Tightening torque 28 Nm (21 lbf ft)


7. Fit the retaining spring (A) to the brake caliper.

8. Fit the wheel .

9. Lower the car.

10. Depress the brake pedal repeatedly in order to press out the brake piston and the handbrake self adjustment.

11. Check the operation of the foot brake and handbrake.
