Propeller Shaft Replacement

Component Name

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

Rear Differential Drive Flange Bolts and Retainers (Qty: 3) Refer to Fastener Caution .

Mark a reference point between the propeller shaft and the flange.

Using the appropriate tools, remove the flange bolts and the retainers.

Use the DT 49064 puller , if needed to remove the propeller shaft.

Mark up the position with spray paint, to avoid vibrations after installation. Support with a bottle jack and DT-49035 holder.

36 Nm (27 lb ft)

Support Bearing Mounting Bolts (Qty: 4)

Lower the evaporator canister to gain access to the center bearing bolts. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement (NT7, NU5) .

Support the support bearings with jack stands.

Clean threads of all residue of the old threader locker.

Apply thread locker to the bolts, see Adhesives, fluids, lubricants, and sealers .

Propeller Shaft

Using the DT-49030 fork , remove the propeller shaft from the transfer case.

It may be necessary to have the help of an assistant to remove the propeller shaft.

Apply grease on the spline. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
