Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement

Removal Procedure

Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning .

Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution .

Warning

Always connect or disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EBCM/EBTCM with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.



1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

2. Without draining the coolant or removing the hoses, remove and position aside the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LAU) Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LF1) .

Note

Lift the dash panel insulator slightly to remove the upper master cylinder heat shield nut.


If equipped with the master cylinder heat shield, remove the master cylinder heat shield nuts (1).


4. Remove the master cylinder heat shield bolt (1).


5. Remove the master cylinder heat shield.

6. Clean the electronic brake control module (EBCM) to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) area of any dirt or debris.

7. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector.

8. Remove the EBCM bolts (1).

Note

Do not pry the components apart.


Carefully pull the EBCM (1) from the BPMV.


10. Remove the 12 EBCM seals, if necessary.


Installation Procedure


1. Install the EBCM seals, if removed.


2. Install the EBCM (1) to the BPMV.

3. Refer to Fastener Caution .

Install the EBCM bolts (1) and tighten in a crosswise pattern to 3 Nm (27 lb in) .


4. Install the master cylinder heat shield, if equipped.


5. Install the master cylinder heat shield bolt (1) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in) .

Note

Lift the dash panel insulator slightly to install the upper master cylinder heat shield nut.


Install the master cylinder heat shield nuts (1) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft) .


7. Install the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LAU) Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LF1) .

8. If a new EBCM is installed it must be programmed. Refer to Control Module References .

9. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle .
