It has become evident via claims that have been submitted that they have not been made in accordance with the instructions in earlier TSBs. Incorrect claims result in misleading warranty statistics, amongst other things.
This edition is a reminder.

| Background |
The engine control module is often incorrectly identified as the failed object (248 10) during fault diagnosis when the fault cannot be established. During fault diagnosis when the failed object cannot be established, Failed Object 190 70 (fault diagnosis, engine) must be used to facilitate the work of the dealer.
| Procedure |
Example of how failed object should be used in warranty claims:

When Tech2 indicates an internal fault in the engine control module, Failed Object 248 10 (Control module) for engine control module must be used.

In the event of a fault in the oxygen sensor (after the catalytic converter) Failed Object 254 46 (Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter) must be specified as failed object.

If a pin has dislodged in a wiring harness connector, then the wiring harness Failed Object code must be used as failed object, e.g. 371 15 (Wiring harness, injection).

When programming new software that resolves the customer's problem, and in the event of a control module fault, the Failed Object code for each control module must be used (e.g. 248 10 for engine control module).

During fault diagnosis when the failed object cannot be established, Failed Object 190 70 (fault diagnosis, engine) must be used as failed object.
