Vacuum pump, mechanical, 4-cyl petrol engine

To remove

Important

Blow the hose and pipe connections clean with compressed air before removing.

Cover the holes after removing.

1. Remove the upper engine cover, three clips.

2. Disconnect the hose from the turbo pressure sensor.

3. Undo the screw securing the bypass pipe to the turbo intake pipe.

4. Remove the bypass valve from the charge air pipe.

5. Unplug the temperature sensor connector on the charge air pipe.

6. Undo the hose clamps by the throttle body and charge air hose.

7. Undo the bolt that secures the charge air pipe to the mounting on the cylinder head, and remove the pipe. Cover the throttle body and pressure hose.

8. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump by pressing the red ring in and pulling the hose outwards.

9. Unplug the electrical connection for the ignition discharge module.

10. Remove the banjo nipple for pump lubrication.

Collect the oil that drains.

Note

When refitting, the position of the vacuum pump and axle in relation to the groove in the camshaft must be the same.

11. Remove the 3 retaining bolts holding the pump.

Remove the pump, pull outwards.

To fit

1. Fit the pump.

Turn the axle to the correct position in relation to the groove in the camshaft. Fit and lubricate the O-rings and loosely tighten the banjo nipple.

2. Fit and loosely tighten the three retaining bolts.

3. Tighten the banjo nipple.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

4. Tighten the pump retaining bolts, firstly the two in the cylinder head, then the bolt in the stay.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

From and including engine no. 7011079 to cylinder head: 21 Nm (15 lbf ft)

5. Connect the vacuum hose.

6. Connect the electrical connector for the ignition discharge module.

7. Wipe away any oil.

Note

Check the O-ring on the throttle body, replace if required.

To facilitate fitting, a thin layer of Vaseline (part no. 300 66 65) can be applied to the O-ring.

8. Carefully connect the turbocharger delivery pipe to the throttle body and secure it with the bolt to the mounting on the cylinder head.

Tighten the hose clamp at the throttle body.

9. Connect the charge pressure hose to the pipe and tighten the hose clamp.

10. Plug in the temperature sensor connector and connect the pipe to the turbo pressure sensor.

11. Connect the bypass valve and tighten the screw securing the bypass pipe to the turbo intake pipe.

12. Fit the cover.

13. Check the function of the brake servo.
