Symptom: No headlamp beam adjustment. Warning lamp on in MIU.

B3420

Rear Load Angle Sensor, Open circuit, short to B+/ground

Warning

HIGH TENSION

The headlamp/AHL control module and xenon headlamp ignition transformer generate a voltage in excess of 23 000 V. This voltage can be lethal to individuals with a weak heart or pacemaker. Treat this system with great respect and turn off the ignition before working on the system's components.

Warning

Read through Safety and handling instructions, headlamps with xenon bulbs before starting.

Fault symptoms

No headlamp beam adjustment.

Warning lamp on in MIU.

Enable criteria

Xenon lamp on.

Fault criteria

Incorrect signal from rear load angle sensor.

System reaction to a fault

The headlamp reflectors are tilted down to their bottom position and the headlamp beam adjustment is terminated as long as the fault persists.

Checking the wiring harness

Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short-circuits in the leads. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool during the test.

Diagnostic help

The diagnostic trouble codes can also be generated if the load angle sensor is incorrectly fitted

Check that the load angle sensor is correctly fitted before starting fault diagnosis.
