Raise the car and remove the wheel.
V6 diesel:
Remove the lower engine cover and left-hand side cover.
|

Undo the clips on the brake hose and the ABS cable fasteners.
|
|
4.
|
Remove the screw securing the ball joint to the steering swivel member. Prise loose and lower the suspension arm. Secure it in this position with a block of wood placed between the suspension arm and the anti-roll bar.

5.
|
Swing the wheel to the right to facilitate removing the drive shaft. Grab hold of the MacPherson strut and pull. The drive shaft will follow. Then lower it in front of the suspension arm.

Important
|
|
Exercise caution; make sure that the tripod does not come loose from the inboard universal joint driver (aut).
|
|
|
|
|

Remove the seal retainer.
|
|
7.
|
Change O-ring and drive shaft seal.
|
|
1.
|
Fit the seal retainer.
Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)
|
|
4.
|
Make sure that the drive shaft is clean and then align it with the tool.
|
Important
|
|
Fit the drive shaft in the gearbox until about 20 mm remains and extract the tool before the shaft's sealing surface reaches the shaft seal.
|
|
|
|
|
5.
|
Push in the rest of the shaft until the circlip clicks in.
|
|
6.
|
Fit the ball joint to the steering swivel member and tighten.
Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft)
Warning
|
|
Make sure the steering swivel pin is visible above the steering swivel member before fitting the bolt.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
7.
|
Fit the brake line in the mounting on the steering swivel member and fit the clip as well as the two mountings for the ABS lead.
|

8.
|
Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. See
Wheels
.
Tightening torque 110 Nm (80 lbf ft)

Important
|
|
The wheels must be hanging freely while tightening the wheel screws.
|
|
|
|
