Differential

Differential

The function of the differential is to allow the outer wheel to rotate faster than the inner wheel during cornering. The small differential pinions thus rotate around the differential shaft when the larger differential pinions rotate at different speeds, and are at a standstill when driving straight ahead, when the larger differential pinions rotate at the same speed. Power is transferred from the final gear pinion to the final gear wheel, which is screwed into the differential housing. From the differential housing, the power goes via the small differential pinions to the larger ones, which are connected to the inner actuators and the intermediate shaft by splined joints. From here, the power goes through the drive shafts to the wheels.
