Fault symptom

Parking heater fails to start.

Condition

Parking heater activated.

B+ less than 10.2 V.

Diagnostic help

Parking heater can be activated with Tech 2.

Parking heater function can be programmed in SID.

Eberspächer diagnostics instrument used for diagnosis.



Diagnostic procedure




1 Check the battery


Check battery condition.

Start the engine.

Check battery voltage at different engine rpm.

Red test lead: B+.

Black test lead: B-.

Voltage should be higher than 10.5 V.


Test results OK?

YES


- Go to point 3.



NO


- Go to point 2.



2 Check the component



Check the accumulator and the regulator. See group 3 Electrical system, ’Components’.


Test results OK?

YES


- Check the battery. See group 3 Electrical system, ‘Components’.

- Go to point 5.



NO


- Repair or replace the faulty component.

- Go to point 5.



3 Check B+



Check voltage at connector B1.

Red test lead: Pin 1.

Black test lead: Pin 2.

B+ should be obtained.


Test results OK?

YES


- Go to point 4.



NO


- Check that there is no corrosion or loose contact in the lead between pin 1 in B1 and the fuse.

- Go to point 4.



4. Final check



Delete DTCs in all systems.

Contact: SID.

Activate parking heater (ON).

Perform a functionality check.

Evaluate the functionality check.

Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred.


Test results OK?

YES


- Fault rectified successfully.



NO


- See ’Procedure for replacement of control module’.
