Selector lever position

Selector lever position

The TCM continuously transmits information on the bus indicating the selected “SELECTOR LEVER POSITION” with value P, R, N, D, M, L” or respectively P, R, N, D, 4, 3, L (D223L), the value being used by both the engine control system and the MIU.

If a selector lever position other than P or N is selected, the requested air mass/combustion will be increased to compensate for the imminent load increase. This is to compensate fully for the automatic transmission's increased torque requirement and avoid a reduction in idling speed before idle speed control compensation has had time to take effect.

The main instrument unit uses “SELECTOR LEVER POSITION” information to light up the relevant segment in the selector lever position indicator.

When position M is selected the main instrument panel indicates gear position 1-5, in accordance with what the driver requested with the gear change buttons on the steering wheel.
