Locking and unlocking the tailgate

Lock
The tailgate lock can be locked together with other lock motors using the key from the driver's door, the remote control or the lock button on the centre console. The tailgate lock functions can also be adjusted.
The following lock functions can be adjusted using the diagnostics tool:
Unlock
The tailgate is unlocked with the switch on the driver's door or the tailgate button on the remote control. If the car is locked but without electrical power, the tailgate can still be unlocked, see

The switches in the driver's door do not work when the car is locked from outside or when the TSL lock (Theft Security Lock) is activated.
Open the tailgate using the outer handle or from within using the inner handle. The safety lock function is set using a switch in the bottom of the tailgate. The inner handle is then released and the tailgate can only be opened using the outer handle.
When the tailgate is opened, the contacts for the luggage compartment illumination close and ground pin 35 on the TWICE control module. TWICE sends the message “TAILGATE OPEN” to the bus when the tailgate is open. This is used by the main instrument unit, which turns on lamp 213j, door indicator, tailgate. DICE also uses the buss message to turn on the lighting in the tailgate.
