As standard, the Saab 9-5 is fitted with central locking system and, on all markets except US/CA, TSL (Theft Security Lock).
In the US/CA market, the car comes with separate unlocking of the driver's door as standard. Separate unlocking means that the driver's door is unlocked separately first and then the other doors can be unlocked by pressing the remote control button a second time or by pressing the centre console button a second time.
Each door is fitted with a lock assembly with integrated electric motor. The central locking system is controlled by the TWICE control module. Locking/unlocking can be done with a key, the remote control or the button in the centre console. The central locking system will not function with the remote control when the key is in the ignition switch.
The central locking system can be operated with a key from the driver's door only. The lock has a freely rotating cylinder, which means the cylinder will just revolve if the incorrect key is used or there is an attempted break-in.
When the TSL (Theft Security Lock) is activated, all the car locks are blocked so that the doors cannot be unlocked by pulling up the lock button in the door. TSL cannot be activated while any of the doors is open.
If the central locking system is TSL locked with the remote control, the central locking system resumes normal locked mode when the ignition switch is switched to ON in the ignition switch and the correct immobiliser code has been identified. This is a safety function intended to prevent someone from driving off with a TSL-locked car.
The central locking system cannot be activated from inside with the lock button in the driver's door, only with the button in the centre console. Only the respective doors can be locked and unlocked with the lock buttons.
The rear doors are fitted with child safety catches operated with a small knob by the door lock. With the child safety catch on, the door can only be opened from outside provided that the lock button is not depressed.
When locking/unlocking repeatedly, overheating protection is activated which prevents further locking, unlocking is still possible however. The overheating protection activates after the door has been locked/unlocked approximately 18 times, after which there will be a delay of approximately 30 seconds until a further 4 attempts at locking/unlocking can be made. After approximately 2 minutes, the overheating protection will have reset and another 18 attempts at locking/unlocking can be made.
The car is delivered with two keys/remote controls but a further two can be programmed making a total of four keys/remote controls to each car.
To check the number of remote controls/transponders that have been programmed, press the remote control button for opening the boot lid while the ignition is in the ON position. The number of programmed remote controls/transponders will then be displayed on SID.
The central locking motors are supplied power from fuse 11 to pin 47 of the TWICE control module.

Certain central locking functions are programmed according to market specifications. For others, there can be legal stipulations governing them and they must not be re-programmed. Functions can also be programmed to customer requirements. See the following table.
