Draining of fuel tank, US/E85

Warning

Emptying the fuel tank involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapours is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher near at hand. Be mindful of the danger of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.

Wear protective goggles.


The fuel tank has no drain plug. When work on the fuel system requires the tank to be drained, this should be done with suitable tank draining equipment.

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness is of the utmost importance when working on the fuel system. Prevent dirt, etc. from entering the fuel tank and fuel lines.


To remove


1. Check the fuel level. If the tank is full, drain the filler pipe with the tank draining tool to prevent fuel spill.

2. Raise the car.

3. Detach the filler pipe from the tank:

Remove the screw (A) holding the filler pipe in place.


Undo the hose clips (B) and detach the filler pipe from the tank. Detach the ventilation pipe (C) with 83 95 261 Fuel line tool .

4. Use the fuel draining tool to drain the tank through the filler pipe connection.


To fit


1. Connect the filler pipe to the tank:

Attach the filler pipe to the tank and tighten the hose clips (B). Fit the ventilation pipe (C).

Fit the screw (A) that secures the pipe. If the car has a plastic screw, fit a new one.

Tightening torque, plastic screw 1.5 Nm (1 lbf ft)

2. Lower the car to the floor.
