Removal


1. Unplug the negative battery cable.


2. Remove the upper engine cover and the sound insulation.

3. Raise the car.

4. Remove Drive belt, Auxiliary units .

5. Lower the car.

6. Cars with a parking heater on the bulkhead partition:


6.a. Remove the exhaust pipe mounting from the bulkhead partition, undo the exhaust pipe clamp and remove the pipe from the heater.

6.b. Undo the bolts which attach the heater to the bracket

6.c. Push aside the heater when removing the alternator.

7. Remove the wiring harness from the bracket.


8. Disconnect the electrical connections to the alternator (ring type cable terminals).


9. Remove the generator's lower retaining bolt.

10. Remove the two upper alternator retaining bolts.

11. Lift up the alternator.


Refitting


1. Lift the alternator into place and insert the lower bolt.


2. Fit the upper alternator bolts.

Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44.5 lbf ft)

3. Tighten the lower bolt.

Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44.5 lbf ft)

4. Connect the electrical connections (ring type cable terminals) to the alternator.

Tightening torque

M5: 5 Nm (3.7 lbf ft)

M8: 10 Nm (7.5 lbf ft)

5. Attach the cable harness to the bracket.


6. Cars with a parking heater on the bulkhead partition:


6.a. Fit the heater to the bracket.

6.b. Assemble the exhaust pipe clamp and pipe to the heater.

6.c. Fit the exhaust pipe bracket to the bulkhead partition.

7. Raise the car.

8. Fit Drive belt, Auxiliary units .

9. Lower the car.

10. Fit the sound insulation and the upper engine cover.


11. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

12. Reset the car, see Actions after battery disconnection .
