Side rear window 5D

To remove


1. Open the door windows so that there is no risk of the rear window being pressed out by the overpressure that would build in the passenger compartment if one of the doors would be closed.

2. Open the tailgate and remove the parcel shelf.

3. Detach the edge of the rear roof moulding so that the D-pillar trim can be removed.


4. Remove the roof covering between the C and D-pillars.

5. Remove the D-pillar trim, 5D

6. Fold down the rear seat backrest. Remove the screws holding the parcel shelf support and remove the support.

7. Unplug the connection for the radio antenna on the side rear window.

8. Remove the C-pillar trim, 5D .

9. Remove the tailgate side covering by pulling off the sealing strip enough to allow the covering to be released. Remove the cover, bolts and nuts. Remove the side support for the tailgate. Then remove the covering.

10. Protect the paint around the window using heavy tape.


11. When replacing glued side windows, use 30 14 099 Handle for cutting wire .

Warning

Use protective equipment such as protective goggles and gloves when changing and bonding window glass.


12. Attach 30 18 033 Cutting wire in the handle and place the wire in the upper front corner.

13. Get someone to help you and slowly saw out the glass. Saw through the guide pins in the top front corner.

Important

Take care when sawing to avoid damaging the paintwork.


Warning

Saw slowly to avoid generating too much heat as the adhesive emits harmful matter when heated.

It is extremely important that satisfactory spot extraction equipment is used when carrying out work that generates heat.

Additional respiratory protection may be used such as a mask with carbon filter or preferably a fresh-air mask.


14. Then lift out the glass and remove the protective tape.

15. Remove the cut guide pins and cut away the adhesive that is pressed down into the guide pin flanges.


Important

Remove the adhesive by that locating stud flanges to ensure the correct height of the windscreen when it is fitted.



Important

Betaseal X 2500 cures in 1 hour at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. To avoid the glass from coming loose or its position changing during the curing time, the car must not be subjected to jolts or blows. The doors, tailgate and bonnet must not be shut. The car must not be rocked or rolled. Neither must the glass be pressed in while the adhesive is curing.


To fit

Use 32 025 039 Adhesive kit, window glass for bonding windows. To avoid confusion between the cleaner and primer, the tubes are different colours:

Betaclean 3300 (glass cleaner)

One wet and one dry cleaning cloth

Betawipe 4001 (for glass with plastic surround)

Blue

Betaprime 5061 (primer, glass and paintwork)

Green



The car should be standing with all four wheels on a level surface when the window is fitted. For the best possible results, it is extremely important for all surfaces that have been cleaned or primed to be kept free from dust and dirt while work is in progress. The same goes for the adhesive when it has been applied. Therefore, once work has started it should be continued without interruption until the window has been fitted and the adhesive has hardened. The adhesive begins to harden as soon as the contents of both tubes are mixed. The window should therefore be fitted into place within 5 minutes of the time that application of the bead of adhesive was first begun. Note that points 7-12 must without exception be carried out in the given order to ensure satisfactory results with maximum adhesion.


1. Cut down the bead of adhesive to a height of no more than 2 mm. Old, well-bonded adhesive is a good foundation for the new bead. Remove any loose adhesive from the glass and metal.

2. Remove loose particles, dirt and remnants of the plastic moulding from the metal flange, using a vacuum cleaner.

3. Make good any damage to the paintwork.

• Scrape off any loose flakes of paint with a knife.

• Wash clean with Terosans Rengörare FL (Cleaner).

• Apply primer. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.

• Apply the finish coat.

Important

The paintwork must be flawless to prevent the onset of corrosion. In addition, an imperfect paintwork repair could result in the layers of paint separating under the bead of adhesive.


4. If there is no old adhesive, or if the adhesive is not intact, primer must be applied to the painted surfaces with which the adhesive will be in contact. Use Betaprime 5061 (green) on any touched-up surfaces. Do not use body primer on old, well-cohered adhesive.

Important

Never apply primer to the old adhesive. Only use primer if there is no old adhesive.


5. Close the tailgate.

6. Place the window inside up on a stand to provide an appropriate work height.

Note

Do not remove the pieces of tape from the spacers of the new window. They protect against squeaks.


7. Carefully wash the edges of the window with Betawipe 3300. Carefully wipe the edges using the wet cleaning cloth. Dry with the dry cleaning cloth provided in the adhesive kit. Avoid touching the cleaned surface.

Important

Do not allow the cleaning agent to dry naturally as it may leave traces of grease on the glass. Always dry with clean, lint-free rags and refold them frequently.


8. Apply Betaprime 5061 (green) to the cleaned surface. Do not apply glass primer closer than 2 mm from the antenna connection. Allow the primer to dry for 10 minutes.

9. Avoid touching the primed surface.

Note

If the rear window is to be secured with tape after being fitted, make sure the roof has been cleaned before starting to fit the rear window.


10. Apply the adhesive as follows:


• Clip off the tip of the adhesive cartridge nozzle so as to provide a suitable shape to the bead of adhesive.

• Adjust the pressure of the glue gun.

• Hold the gun perpendicular to the surface of the glass and apply a bead of adhesive to the primed surface. Check that there are no voids in the bead of adhesive.

11. Fit the window in place, starting with the guide pin.


12. Adjust the glass so that it fits against the tailgate glass.


13. If necessary, secure the window with tape or straps so that it is held against the edge of the roof.

14. Place a counterstay (a piece of cardboard about 1 mm thick, for instance) at the bottom rear corner to prevent the glass from sliding down against the edge of the sheet metal.

15. Reset the glue gun.

16. Allow the adhesive to cure before continuing. Betaseal X 2500 cures in 1 hour at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.

17. Plug in the antenna connector and fit the C-pillar trim.

18. Fit the roof covering between the C and D-pillars.


19. Fit the parcel shelf support and screw it firmly in place.

20. Fit the D-pillar trim and the roof covering.

21. Fit the side covering. Make sure that the upper weatherstrip lies correctly over the upper part of the side coverings.

22. Fit the parcel shelf and close the tailgate.

23. Remove the tape and clean the glass and the side of the car body.


PRE-RELEASE
