ESP unit with control module

To remove


1. Raise the car.

2. Drain the brake fluid from the master cylinder via the bleed nipples on the front brake calipers. Use brake bleeder 88 19 096 Bleeding equipment .

3. Lower the car.

4. Place a cover over the splash guard to protect it from any brake-fluid spillage.

5. V6 diesel engine : Remove the turbocharger heat shield.

6. Detach and move aside the electrical centre.


7. Blow the brake pipe connections clean using compressed air.

8. Unplug the connector from ESP unit.

9. Detach the brake pipes between the ESP unit and master brake cylinder.


10. Disconnect the brake pipes from the ESP unit.

11. Remove the ESP unit.


To fit


1. Make sure the rubber plug is inserted in the ESP unit's bracket on the structural member.

2. Fit the ESP unit.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)


3. Fit the brake pipes that run to the wheel cylinders. Thread the nipples by hand.

4. Tighten the nipples with a brake pipe wrench.

Tightening torque: 15 Nm (11 lbf ft)

Fit the brake pipes that run to the master cylinder.

Tightening torque: 15 Nm (11 lbf ft)

5. Plug in the connector.


6. Fit the electrical distribution unit.

7. V6 diesel engine : Fit the turbocharger heat shield.

8. Bleed the brake system, see Bleeding the brake system .

9. If the unit is changed : Connect the diagnostic tool and configure the unit.

10. Perform Spare parts programming, ESP .
