Permissible joints

Permissible joints

When carrying out bodywork repairs it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the body reinforcement components are not damaged. The figure below shows a summary of permissible joints on a number of frequently occurring repairs. In many cases the joints are measured from the measuring points on the side of the body.

1. The central frame member may be joined max. 270 mm from its front edge, depending on where the deformation has occurred.

The inner front frame member may be joined max. 330 mm from its front edge, depending on where the deformation has occurred.

2. The front wheel housing reinforcement should be joined in the middle fracture line (groove) .

3. The front of the door sill should be joined 55 mm above the measuring point.

4. The door sill may be joined a maximum of 50 mm behind the door frame's rear measuring point or a maximum of 150 mm in front of the measuring point.

5. The door sill reinforcement may be cut at the rear edge of the square hole nearest the B pillar.

6. The A pillar should be cut in the centre of the upper and lower measuring points.

7. The upper end of the B pillar should be joined in the centre of the upper measuring point.

8. The lower end of the B pillar at front should be joined in the centre of the front door frame's rear measuring point or a maximum of 150 mm ahead of the measuring point.

The rear edge at the bottom of the B pillar is joined at the normal joint in the sill.

9. On the 4D 9-5 model the C pillar's outer sheet should be cut 50 mm from the top at the rear and 140 mm from the top at the front.

10. On the 5D 9-5 model the C pillar's outer sheet should be cut between two points that are 240 mm from the top at the front and at the point where the rear side window's radius starts.

11. The D pillar on the 5D 9-5 model may be cut where the rear side window's radius starts.

12. The D pillar on the 5D 9-5 model may be cut 140-190 mm from the tip of the upper rear part of the rear wing.
