Remove the tailgate. See

Remove the gas spring from the hinge.
|
|
| 3. |
Remove the bolt securing the hinge on the inside.
|
|
| 4. |
Remove the side supports.
|
|
| 5. |
Pull off the weatherstrip sufficiently to reveal the mouldings.

Some cars
: Remove the side covers.
|
|
| 7. |
Some cars
: Remove the upper cover.
|
|
| 8. |
Unscrew the two bolts on the outside of the body.
|
|
| 9. |
Lift out the hinge.
|
|
| To fit |
| 1. |
Put the hinge in position.
|
|
| 2. |
Screw on the two bolts on the outside of the body.
|
|
| 3. |
Screw in the bolt on the inside.
Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14 lbf ft) 
|
|
| 4. |
Lubricate the gas spring ball sockets with Gleitmo 805 (part no. 30 06 442) and fit the gas spring.

Adjust the tailgate, refer to

| 7. |
Certain car
: Fit the covers around the tailgate opening.
