Evaporator high-pressure pipe (4-cyl petrol)

Evaporator high-pressure pipe (4-cyl petrol)

The evaporator's high-pressure pipe consists of two pipes running from the receiver via a joint by the console behind the right-hand headlamp to the expansion valve.

Important

Be careful not to contaminate the expansion valve.

To remove

1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Drain the refrigerant from the A/C system. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .

3. Detach the inlet hose with mass air flow sensor, without unplugging the connector, and place it on one side.

4. Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

5. Remove and move away the by-pass pipe including the valve.

6. Unplug the radiator fan connectors on the fan cowling. Undo the hose clamps holding the hose to the coolant expansion tank.

Cars with automatic transmission:

Disconnect the oil cooler hose from the bottom of the fan cowling.

7. Remove the fan cowling.

8. Disconnect and fold away the pressure hose from the turbo.

9. Detach the front end of the high-pressure pipe from the joint by the console behind the right-hand headlamp and plug the openings.

10. Detach the pipe from the receiver and plug the openings.

Important

If the desiccant container has been open for more than 15 minutes in total, it should be changed.

11. Loosen the pipe from the holders on the subframe and remove it.

Note

Make a note of how the pipe is positioned before removing it.

12. Loosen and push aside the power-steering oil container.

13. Detach the rear end of the high-pressure pipe from the expansion valve.

Plug the openings.

14. Loosen the high-pressure pipe from the holders on the structure.

15. Carefully lift out the high-pressure pipe.

To fit

1. Position the rear end of the high-pressure pipe.

2. Remove the plugs. Replace and lubricate the O-rings of the high-pressure pipe.

3. Connect the high-pressure pipe to the expansion valve.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)

4. Fit the power-steering oil container.

5. Fasten the pipe with the holders on the structure.

6. Position the front end of the high-pressure pipe.

Note

Start by inserting the right-hand end of the pipe from left to right down under the compressor. If the pipe is located correctly, it should now fall in place.

7. Remove the plugs. Replace and lubricate the O-rings on both ends of the high-pressure pipe.

8. Connect the pipe's PAD connector to the receiver.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)

9. Fasten the pipe with the holders on the subframe.

10. Adjust the oil level in the compressor. See Filling and adjustment of compressor oil .

Connect the high-pressure pipe to the joint on the console behind the right-hand headlamp.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)

11. Fit the pressure hose to the turbo.

12. Fit the fan cowling.

13. Replace the hose clamp and connect the connectors to the radiator fans on the fan cowling.

Cars with automatic transmission:

Connect the oil cooler hose on the bottom of the fan cowling.

14. Fit the by-pass pipe including the valve.

15. Fit the heat shield to the manifold.

16. Fit the inlet hose with mass air flow sensor.

17. Evacuate the A/C system and fill with R134a refrigerant. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .
