Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the engine control module (ECM). This diagnostic also addresses if the ECM is not programmed or is programmed incorrectly.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0602, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P0610, P0614, P0630, P160D, P160E, P161C, P2610

These DTCs run continuously when the ignition is ON.

P06D1

The engine is running.

The engine speed is less than 5,000 RPM.

The battery voltage is between 10-18 V.

DTC P06D1 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects an internal failure or incomplete or incorrect programming.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTCs P0602, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P0610, P0614, P0630, P160D, and P160E are Type A DTCs.

DTCs P061D and P2610 are Type B DTCs.

DTC P161C is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTCs P0602, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P0610, P0614, P0630, P160D, and P160E are Type A DTCs.

DTCs P061D and P2610 are Type B DTCs.

DTC P161C is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

2. DTC P0602, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P0610, P0614, P0630, P06D1, P160D, P160E, P161C, or P2610 should not reset.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Test the voltage and ground inputs to the K20 ECM for the following:

A short

An open

High Resistance

2. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool.

3. If diagnostic trouble codes P0602, P0610, P0614, P0630, P160D P160E or P161C failed this ignition cycle, ECM K20 must be reprogrammed. If the diagnostic trouble codes are activated again, replace the ECM K20.

4. If DTC P0606 failed this ignition, clear the DTCs with a scan tool and verify the DTC does not reset. If the DTC resets, replace the K20 ECM.

5. Observe the DTC Info with a scan tool. Diagnostic trouble codes P0603, P0604, P0605, P06D1 or P2610 must not be generated.

6. If a DTC failed this ignition, replace the K20 ECM.

7. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
