In-storage vehicle care

In-storage vehicle care

In-storage vehicle care is mandatory for all vehicles at intervals of not more than 60 days until the vehicle is sold.

For the battery the check must be at intervals of not more than 30 days. Check on the battery card when the last battery check was conducted. Carry out the battery check in accordance with Checking the battery/testing .

Carry out the checks and confirm this with your signature on the In-storage care, form .

For the rectification of defects, please refer to the workshop information and procedures.

Checking and adjustment points

1. Check that the plastic paint protector is intact. If damage has occurred in the paint protector, remove this in order to investigate possible damage. Then store the vehicle preferably under a roof.

Important

The plastic paint protector may remain on the car for no more than 3 months and must then be removed; see Service - Adjustment/replacement - Plastic paint protector.

2. Unlock the vehicle.

3. Perform Battery Inspection/Test .

Important

If possible, the battery should be checked before the car is started in order to prevent misleading results due to "top charging". If the car has already been started, wait 20 minutes before connecting the battery analyser.

4. Fill fuel to min. 2/3 tank to prevent the fuel pump running dry.

5. Check the engine oil. If the oil is thick or contains lumps then the oil and oil filter must be changed.

6. Check and if necessary adjust the tyre pressure to 3.5 bar (50 psi).

Important

If the car is parked for lengthier periods with underinflated tyres, a flat area will form where they are resting on the ground. This gives rise to vibration and makes wheel balancing more difficult.

7. Check Coolant, freezing point and level .

8. Drive the vehicle and at the same time carry out several short braking procedures so that the brake discs are clean and dry.

9. Park the vehicle in the opposite direction to distribute the effect of the sun.

10. Open the bonnet so the engine cools down faster.

11. Check and correct if necessary the protective plastic for the seats.

12. Make sure that:

The handbrake lever is in fully released position.

Manual gearbox: Reverse gear is selected.

Automatic transmission: Selector lever is in position P.

All windows, doors and bootlid/tailgate are properly closed.

13. Lock the vehicle.

14. Check the engine bay with respect to corrosion, especially on aluminium.

Treat as necessary with protective wax. Apply a wide film of wax without excess.

Warning

Be aware of the risk of fire. Make sure that the temperature in the engine compartment has decreased. Do not spray against the end of the generator.

Important

It may be advantageous to allow the protective wax to remain as engine compartment protection when delivered to the customer. If the customer does not find this acceptable it can of course be washed off.

15. Close the hood.
