Circuit/System Description

The keyless entry control module receives a discrete input signal from the driver and passenger doors from the door-ajar signal of the switch circuit. The driver-side window motor receives a discrete input signal from the driver door-not-closed switch circuit. The passenger-side window switch receives a discrete signal from the passenger door-not-closed switch circuit. Door-ajar switch circuits and door-not-closed switch circuits are integral parts of the door handle units. When a door is open the door-ajar and door-not-closed switch circuits close. When the door-ajar switches are closed, the door-ajar switch circuit is connected to ground. Window switches communicate door-not-closed signal data serially via the keyless entry control module

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B297B 5A: The keyless entry control module detects a difference between the driver door-not-closed and door-ajar signals when the door is open.

B297C 5A: The keyless entry control module detects a difference between the passenger door-not-closed and door-ajar signals when the door is open.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The keyless entry control module ignores input signals from the external door handle switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.

When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.

A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Interior Trunk Lid/Liftgate Window Unlatch Switch parameter while pressing and releasing the rear compartment lid release switch. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the lead connector from the malfunctioning door handle assembly.

2. Measure and check for less than 10 Ω between the ground lead listed below and ground.

A23D Door handle assembly - Driver terminal 8

A23P Door handle assembly - Passenger terminal 3

If greater than the value given above, test the ground lead for an open circuit/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify that the following scan tool parameters are inactive:

Driver door: Driver door-ajar switch

Passenger door: Passenger door-ajar switch

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal for a short to ground. If it tests normal, replace the K84 Keyless Entry Control Module

4. Install a 3 A fused jumper lead between the signal circuit listed below and ground. Verify with a scan tool that the driver door-ajar switch or passenger door-ajar switch is active.

A23D Door handle assembly - Driver terminal 7

A23P Door handle assembly - Passenger terminal 2

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 Keyless Entry Control Module.

5. If all circuits function as normal, test or replace the door handle assembly.

Component Testing

Trunk Release Switch

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door handle assembly.

2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the circuit terminals listed below:

Driver door handle assembly terminal 7 and ground terminal 8

Passenger door handle assembly terminal 2 and ground terminal 3

If the value does not match the above, replace door lock handle

3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 5 Ω between the circuit terminals listed below.

Driver door handle signal terminal 7 and ground terminal 8.

Passenger door handle signal terminal 2 and ground terminal 3

If greater than the value specified above, replace the door handle assembly

Repair Instructions
