Circuit/System Description

When the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACCY position, or retained accessory power (RAP) is enabled and the driver or passenger window switch or rear window switch is pressed in the down position, voltage is applied to the appropriate window motor causing that window to open. When the driver or passenger window switch is pulled in the up position, voltage is applied to the appropriate window motor in the opposite direction causing that window to close.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, command the M74P Window Motor-Passenger, M74RR Window Motor--Right Rear and M74LR Window Motor--Left Rear UP and DOWN by using the corresponding S79D Window Switch-Driver switch. The passenger window and rear windows should carry out the UP and DOWN functions from each switch.

2. If the right front, left rear and right rear switches are inoperative, refer to Driver Window Switch Malfunction.

3. Command the M74P window motor-passenger UP and DOWN by using the S74P rear window switch-passenger. The M74P window motor-passenger should perform the UP and DOWN function.

4. If the M74P window motor-passenger does perform as specified, refer to Passenger Window Malfunction.

5. Command the M74RR window motor-right rear UP and DOWN by using the S74RR rear window switch-right rear. The M74RR window motor-right rear should perform the UP and DOWN function.

6. If the M74RR window motor-right rear does perform as specified, refer to Right Rear Window Malfunction.

7. Command the M74LR window motor-left rear UP and DOWN by using the S74LR window switch-left rear. The M74LR window motor-left rear should perform the UP and DOWN function.

8. If the M74LR window motor-left rear does perform as specified, refer to Left Rear Window Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Driver Window Switch Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver.

2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 4 and ground.

3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or and open/high resistance.

4. Observe the scan tool Passenger Window Main Control Down Switch, Passenger Window Main Control Up Switch and Passenger Window Main Control Express Switch parameters while using the switch for the front right on the S79D Window Switch-Driver. Each parameter should change from Inactive to Active as the switch is used.

5. If the parameter is always Active or always Inactive, replace the S79D window switch-driver.

6. Observe the scan tool Left Rear Window Main Control Down Switch, Left Rear Window Main Control Up Switch and Left Rear Window Main Control Express Switch parameters while using the switch for the rear left on the S79D Window Switch-Driver. Each parameter should change from Inactive to Active as the switch is used.

7. If the parameter is always Active or always Inactive, replace the S79D window switch-driver.

8. Observe the scan tool Right Rear Window Main Control Down Switch, Right Rear Window Main Control Up Switch and Right Rear Window Main Control Express Switch parameters while using the right rear switch on the S79D Window Switch-Driver. Each parameter should change from Inactive to Active as the switch is used.

9. If the parameter is always Active or always Inactive, replace the S79D window switch-driver.

10. If all circuit test normal, replace the S79D window switch-driver.

Passenger Window Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the S79P window switch-passenger.

2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 4 and ground

5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

6. Ignition OFF, connect the X1 harness connector at the S79P window switch-passenger.

7. Disconnect the harness connector at the M74P window motor-passenger.

8. Test for less than 5 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.

9. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79P window switch-passenger.

10. Test for less than 5 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.

11. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79P window switch-passenger.

12. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.

13. Ignition ON, command the passenger window UP and DOWN using the S79P Window Switch-Passenger. The test lamp should turn on briefly when commanding the UP and DOWN states.

14. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test both control circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the S79P window switch-passenger.

15. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M74P window motor-passenger.

Right Rear Window Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79RR window switch-right rear.

2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 8 and ground

5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

6. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S79RR window switch-right rear.

7. Disconnect the harness connector at the M74LR window motor-left rear.

8. Test for less than 5 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
